{"id":132668,"date":"2015-07-08T13:42:54","date_gmt":"2015-07-08T13:42:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=132668"},"modified":"2015-07-08T14:34:26","modified_gmt":"2015-07-08T14:34:26","slug":"one-feared-dead-after-bridge-collapsed-at-ashalaja","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/one-feared-dead-after-bridge-collapsed-at-ashalaja\/","title":{"rendered":"One feared dead after bridge collapsed at Ashalaja"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A middle-aged man is feared dead after he was trapped under a collapsed bridge at Ashalaja in the Ga South Municipality in Accra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The bridge, which connects Ayikai Doboro, Ashalaja and its environs collapsed last night after a tipper truck loaded with gravels used it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A driver of the commercial vehicle and a man believed to be his conductor were trapped under the bridge.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The driver and his assistant\u00a0were later rescued but the mate was brought out lifeless.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-3.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-132674\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-3.jpg\" alt=\"collapsed bridge (3)\" width=\"768\" height=\"432\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-3.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-3-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga South Municipal Assembly, Nii Akwei Thompson in an interview with <strong>Citi News<\/strong> attributed the cause of the collapsed bridge to activities of tipper truck drivers in the area.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said incessant sand winning in the area had exposed the bridge, adding that tipper truck operators were cautioned not to use it but they ignored.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-132672\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-1.jpg\" alt=\"collapsed bridge (1)\" width=\"768\" height=\"377\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-1.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/07\/collapsed-bridge-1-300x147.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Nii Akwei Thompson assured that the completion of another bridge currently under construction, will guarantee safety in the future.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cLast year, the residents of Ashalaja complained about weakness of the bridge. The feeder road engineers came to repair it. They even warned that vehicles with loads should not be allowed to use that bridge.
