The Association of State Attorneys will today embark on a nationwide strike to press home their demands for improved working conditions.<\/p>\n
They gave the government a July 6 deadline to address their concerns.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”t3fDaZZEvVHQsBQVue1i1mgrYY5PW39K”]They are demanding salary increment and a harmonization of their salaries and benefits to that of circuit court judges as stated in the Legal Services\u00a0Act 1993.<\/p>\n
They also complain of lack of logistics at their offices to work effectively.<\/p>\n
According to them, various stakeholder discussions including a meeting on Monday failed to yield any positive results, hence their decision.<\/p>\n
The president of the Association of State Attorneys, Francisca Takyi Mensah in an interview with Citi News<\/strong> said they are only demanding what is legally due them.<\/p>\n \u201cWe indicated that our strike action will start on July 7, 2015. We said we will be having a meeting with the Chief of staff and if they are able to answer our demands positively, we will call of the strike. However, we realized that they have not done anything about our request so we have decided to go on the strike,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n \u00a0\u201c…we are also saying that we deserve to be put on a pension scheme. It\u2019s a criminal offence not to put us on pension, can you imagine state lawyers, don\u2019t have pension scheme, it\u2019s a very serious thing, so its not about whether the government has money or not, we are only saying that the right thing should be done, put us on the pension scheme.”<\/p>\n The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSSAG) in May also embarked on a nationwide strike<\/a><\/strong><\/span> action to force government to pay them their allowances due them.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin A.
