{"id":131704,"date":"2015-07-06T06:00:18","date_gmt":"2015-07-06T06:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=131704"},"modified":"2015-07-06T06:00:50","modified_gmt":"2015-07-06T06:00:50","slug":"nigerian-jailed-10-years-for-drug-possession","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/07\/nigerian-jailed-10-years-for-drug-possession\/","title":{"rendered":"Nigerian jailed 10 years for drug possession"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a Nigerian businessman to 10 years imprisonment for illegally possessing a quantity of cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>Sunday Okay, the convict pleaded not guilty to the offense but was found culpable after the trial.<\/p>\n<p>Police Superintendent Emmanuel Akunnor, told the court that the \u2018stuff\u2019 compressed into six-cello taped slabs, were found hidden on a commercial SsangYong bus, when the Police personnel intercepted the vehicle at a check point at Nkawkaw near Abofuor on the Techiman-Kumasi highway.<\/p>\n<p>[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;yvRBJ9hAr7Rf7y5Tjz3BeftRVGfR2nIF&#8221;]This was on August 30, 2014, at about 1200 hours.<\/p>\n<p>The bus with Registration Number AW 4049-14 was traveling from Techiman in the Brong-Ahafo Region to Accra, with Okay and other passengers on board.<\/p>\n<p>Okay claimed ownership after questioning and together with the exhibits, he was handed over to the Drug Law Enforcement Unit for investigations.<\/p>\n<p>The exhibits were then forwarded to the Ghana Standard Authority (GSA) in Accra for forensic examination and a comprehensive report confirming the weight and the veracity of the substance as cannabis.<\/p>\n<p>It was later returned to the Court on February 18, 2015.<\/p>\n<p>A duplicate case docket was forwarded to the Attorney General\u2019s Department for study and advice.<\/p>\n<p>An advice was received from the Attorney General\u2019s Department on April 20, 2014 giving the green light for him to be charged with the offence.<\/p>\n<p>He admitted ownership of the exhibits during investigations and claimed it was given to him at Techiman by a friend to be given to someone in Accra.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Source: GNA<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A Kumasi Circuit Court has sentenced a Nigerian businessman to 10 years imprisonment for illegally possessing a quantity of cannabis.
