On the night of June 3 when a loud explosion was heard at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle, little did Ghanaians know it was the beginning of major disaster in the history of the country.<\/p>\n

This is how the story unfolded till today [July 3], a month on.<\/p>\n

June 3, 2015:\u00a0<\/strong>The GOIL fuel filling station near the GCB bank towers at Circle in Accra was gutted by fire on Wednesday<\/a><\/strong><\/span> amidst heavy flooding in the city.<\/p>\n

June 4, 2015:<\/strong> Over 96 bodies were recovered<\/a><\/strong><\/span> from GOIL filling station fire.<\/p>\n

June 4, 2015:<\/strong>\u00a0Scores of companies along the Graphic road were\u00a0submerged by the floods<\/strong><\/a><\/span> that hit Accra \u00a0on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

President Mahama who visited the fire site with his entourage<\/strong><\/a><\/span> declared that government will take drastic measures to reduce the impact of floods and fires similar to Wednesday\u2019s incident.<\/p>\n

The Education Ministry<\/a><\/strong><\/span> also directed that children who reside in areas which have been affected by the floods and who have \u00a0not yet left for school to stay at home until there was a change in the weather.<\/p>\n

Later in the day, scores of Ghanaians thronged the 37 Military Hospitals in Accra to identify the bodies of their relatives<\/a><\/strong><\/span> who died in the floods and fire incident.<\/p>\n

The Ministry of Health, Alex Segbefia held a press conference and lamented about the situation<\/strong><\/a><\/span>. He also\u00a0appealed to Ghanaians to volunteer and donate blood to help save lives especially during emergency situations.<\/p>\n

According to the Ghana Meteorological Service<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, the rains will be more intense from now till the second week of June.<\/p>\n

Crisis meeting and $50 million package<\/strong><\/p>\n

President Mahama held a\u00a0closed door National Crisis and Emergency meeting<\/a><\/strong><\/span> with the security chiefs and some members of his cabinet at the Flagstaff House. He after the meeting announced a $50 million package<\/strong><\/a><\/span> to support victims of the flood and fire. He also\u00a0declared three days of mourning<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for the victims.<\/p>\n

June 5, 2015<\/strong>:\u00a0Togo President, Faure Gnassingbe was in the country to commiserate with Ghanaians<\/a><\/strong><\/span>. He described the recent fire explosion incident as one of the most serious trials for Ghana<\/strong><\/a><\/span>.<\/p>\n

The Ga West Municipal Assembly begun demolishing some structures<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in the area believed to be on waterways including.<\/p>\n

Death toll hits 150<\/strong><\/p>\n

The death toll increased from 96 to 150<\/a><\/strong><\/span> as announced by President Mahama.<\/p>\n

Desilting of Odaw drain<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) started desilting the Odaw drain<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n

June 10, 2015:<\/strong>\u00a0One week\u00a0National Memorial Service<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0held for\u00a0victims of the June 3 flood and fire disaster. President Mahama announced\u00a0that DNA tests will be done on the bodies<\/a><\/strong><\/span> retrieved from the floods and the scene of the fire which are yet to be identified.<\/p>\n

June 12, 2015:<\/strong>\u00a0President John Dramani Mahama cancelled scheduled foreign travels<\/a><\/strong><\/span> in order to deal with issues arising from the June 3rd flood and fire disasters.<\/p>\n

June 18, 2015:<\/strong> Fifty bodies deposited at the 37 Military hospitals have been identified through Deoxybonucleic acid (DNA)<\/strong><\/a><\/span> tests out of 65 bodies which had been burnt beyond recognition in the June 3rd flood and fire disaster.<\/p>\n

June 20, 2015<\/strong>: The AMA in its bid to desilt the Korle Lagoon rendered thousands of Old Fadama resident homeless after demolishing their properties<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n
