The pavements and shoulders of the road in front of the Kejetia terminal have been taken over by petty traders following their eviction on Monday from the enclave by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA).<\/p>\n
They have been relocated to ply their trade in three separate markets located in the metropolis to facilitate the commencement of the $298 million Kejetia Terminal and Central Market reconstruction project.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”5zufZDHjwbX5KbEjwAsATXKB1PhijzKF”]The traders who claim the three markets \u2013 Afia Kobi and Sofoline; the Race Course and Akyeamfuor are fully occupied said they were left with no option but to settle on the pavements and on the shoulders of the road.<\/p>\n
At Kejetia and all adjoining avenues – the Afia Kobi Ampem Avenue, Osei Tutu I Avenue, Okomfo Anokye Road through to the Opoku Ware II Avenue, are congested.<\/p>\n
Some\u00a0commercial drivers who have refused to join their counterparts at areas designated for their relocation are also picking up passengers along the roads; a situation which is creating heavy vehicular traffic in\u00a0the city.<\/p>\n
The situation has thus forced pedestrians to weave through traffic instead of using the sidewalks, which have been turned into open markets.<\/p>\n
There is a scramble for space on these pavements as demarcations have been made with paint, stones, chalks, charcoal, and other marks of identification by the traders.<\/p>\n
