The 2016 presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has reiterated his appeal to all newly elected parliamentary aspirants of the party to reach out and bring on board the unsuccessful candidates at the recently held primaries, to help them beat their opponents in the general elections.

According to Akufo-Addo, this should be the first task for all successful parliamentary candidates, to garner support towards ensuring an NPP victory in 2016.

[contextly_sidebar id=”7lfsY6xUhvFFcNtc6q3wm2q8XZHVKSeL”]The NPP flagbearer said this when five newly elected parliamentary aspirants of the party called on him separately at his residence in Nima, on Tuesday, June 30, to formally introduce themselves.

The candidates are Eugene Antwi, candidate for Subin constituency; Bright Wireko Brobbey, candidate for Hemang Lower Denkyira; Elvis Morris Donkor, candidate for Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese; Frank Annoh-Dompreh, candidate for Nsawam Adoagyiri; and Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye, candidate for Ledzokuku.

Subin

Addressing delegates from the Subin constituency who were first to call on him, Nana Akufo-Addo applauded them for the peaceful nature of the primaries, which resulted in the election of Eugene Antwi. Mr Antwi beat the incumbent Isaac Osei, a former High Commissioner of Ghana to the United Kingdom and Chief Executive Officer of COCOBOD.

Nana Akufo-Addo admonished the aspirant to ensure that the incumbent MP, together with his supporters, are brought on board to prosecute the agenda of retaining the seat for the NPP, as well reducing the vote tally of the NDC in 2016.

“Whatever I have to do, personally, to ensure unity prevails and everyone is brought onboard in Subin, I will do. However, you (Eugene Antwi) also have a huge responsibility on your shoulders. If it means that you should go to Isaac Osei’s house early in the morning to implore with him to throw his support behind you, you should do so. Isaac Osei is a leading member of this party, so whatever you have to do to gain his support and that of his supporters, you have to do it,” Nana Addo advised.

Eugene Antwi, on his part pledged to strive to present a united front for the NPP in Subin by bringing everybody on board, a move he revealed, had begun in earnest.

The 16,058 votes the NDC polled in the area in the last elections according to Eugene Antwi, will be reduced to less than 10,000 votes. This scenario was recorded in the 2000 elections when Samson Kwaku Boafo, who was also present at the meeting, was the NPP candidate.

Hemang lower Denkyiraa

Next to call on Akufo-Addo was a delegation from Hemang Lower Denkyira, led by its newly elected parliamentary candidate, Bright Wereko Brobbey, who was accompanied by some of his polling station and constituency executives, as well as electoral area co-ordinators.

Nana Akufo-Addo also commended the constituency for conducting peaceful primaries, and proceeded to charge the executives and candidate to reclaim the seat which the NPP lost by 31 votes to the NDC in the 2012 elections.

Bright Wereko Brobbey in his brief remarks, pledged his commitment, not only to wrestle the seat from the NDC, but also to increase the vote margin for Akufo-Addo over the NDC’s John Mahama, which was about 117 votes during the last elections.

Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese

The third parliamentary candidate to call on Nana Akufo-Addo was Elvis Morris Donkor from the Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese constituency also in the Central Region.

Delighted by the presence of Kobina Nyanteh, a fellow aspirant from the constituency, who was present to demonstrate the prevailing unity in the constituency, Nana Akufo-Addo urged all constituencies to emulate this, and forge ahead for victory.

“I am happy at the presence of Kobina Nyanteh, it is a good sign. We all know the Central Region is a swing region. Whoever wins the region, wins the national election, and 2016 will be no different. Central Region has to make up its mind firmly to go with the NPP, and they will need you, the parliamentary candidates and constituency executives, to take the NPP’s message to them. We will put the economy back on a sound footing, we have done it before, and we’ll do it again,” he added.

On his part, the Abura/Asebu/Kwamankese candidate thanked Akufo-Addo for making time to meet with them, adding that “we have a crop of young, dynamic men and women ready to win 2016. Whatever we will do to win 2016 from NDC, we will do. We have begun the campaign for 2016, and, God willing, we will have you in power as Ghana’s president, and my good self as the Member of Parliament for AAK.”

Nsawam Adoagyiri

Executives of the Nsawam Adoagyiri constituency, led by their Chairman and Frank Annoh-Dompreh, who was retained in the June 13 primary, were next to call on Nana Akufo-Addo.

The Nsawam MP revealed, much to the delight of Nana Akufo-Addo, that there was total harmony and cordiality existing amongst all 16 constituency executives, adding that he had also reached out to the Seth Wiafe Dankwa, the aspirant he beat in the primary, who has also indicated his readiness to campaign for him in a “difficult constituency, though held by the NPP.”

The margin of 2,411 votes he won with in 2012, according to Hon. Annoh-Dompreh, will be eclipsed in 2016, as he, together with his executives and the constituents of Nsawam Adoagyiri, have set a target of achieving vote margins of not less than 10,000 votes in the presidential and parliamentary elections for the NPP.

The NPP flagbearer thanked the delegation for their presence, and commended the young MP for the work he is doing in solidifying the gains chalked by the NPP in the constituency.

“I talked about the young generation of politicians emerging in the NPP on Monday, and I must emphasise that you are very much a pioneer of this new generation of young politicians in the party. Being a good politician means that you should be able to bring on board your fellow aspirants and I am happy to learn that you have reached out to Seth Wiafe Dankwa, a man I entered Parliament into with in 1996,” he said.

Akufo-Addo further admonished the delegates to embark on a campaign devoid of insults, but rather project the virtues of their candidate and the NPP with the use of decorous language.

“Ghanaians should know the kind of work we are going to do when they give us the mandate. It is, therefore, up to you to knock on the doors of your constituents and send the NPP’s good news of improving their living standards and bringing back prosperity to all to them,” he emphasised.

Ledzokuku

The final constituency to call on Nana Akufo-Addo, Ledzokuku in the Greater Accra region, was led by its Chairman and newly elected candidate, Dr. Bernard Okoe Boye.

Accompanied by a large entourage of polling station and constituency executives, and electoral area co-ordinators, Dr. Okoe Boye told the gathering that “Ledzokuku is a microcosm of what happens in Ghana during elections. Whoever wins Ledzokuku wins the national elections.”

Winning Ledzokuku in 2016, he said, is non-negotiable and the NPP, together with the majority of the electorate of Teshie and its environs, have resolved to bring back the NPP into power, so the party can continue the good works started by President Kufuor which will, in turn, benefit them all.

Akufo-Addo, in re-echoing his call for a united force going into 2016, urged the young medical doctor to bring his fellow aspirant, Stephen Quaye, on board and remain focussed on the task of reclaiming the “swing seat of Ledzokuku” which the NPP lost in 2008.
