President John Dramani Mahama has visited victims that were affected by last Saturday\u2019s flood in Kumasi.<\/p>\n

Five persons reportedly died and many properties were destroyed by the flood, which hit Aboabo and its surrounding areas.<\/p>\n

Though the cause of the flood has established, \u00a0some angry youth in Aboabo took to the streets blaming the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly for the destruction.<\/p>\n

They further demanded that a bridge connecting the community to the central business district be reconstructed to prevent further flooding in the future.<\/p>\n

President Mahama speaking to residents at Aboabo on Tuesday sent his condolences to the bereaved families.<\/p>\n

\u201c<\/strong>If you will remember, in Accra a similar situation occured and a lot of properties were destroyed. Our investigations revealed that the drains had been taken over by sand and other materials. We are currently dredging the drains in\u00a0the\u00a0affected areas. When I came here, I realized that its the same problem that happened in Kumasi. So when I go back to Accra, I will let them bring the dredging equipment to Kumasi so that the drains will be desilted to allow for free flow of water,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n

President Mahama said he has directed the Ministry of Works and Housing to undertake a feasibility study on the bridge \u201cin order that we can construct a bigger one that will allow water to pass under it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, government has provided the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) with some assorted items for onward distribution to the victims affected by the flood.<\/p>\n
