Professor Smile Dzisi has been appointed as the fourth Rector of the Koforidua Polytechnic.<\/p>\n
By her appointment, Prof Dzisi becomes the first woman\u00a0Rector of a Polytechnic in the country.<\/p>\n
Before her appointment, she was the Dean of\u00a0Graduate Studies of the Polytechnic and she is expected to assume office on August 1, 2015.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”OCVDZQpyhtUIQfUGNqAKgWKkv75YAlGY”]The chairperson of the Governing Council of the\u00a0Polytechnic, Prof Esther Sakyi-Dawson, announced this at the 11th Congregation of the Polytechnic in\u00a0Koforidua.<\/p>\n
She said for the 18 years of the existence of the Koforidua Polytechnic,\u00a0it had witnessed a lot of improvement in the quality and number of staff, student enrolment,\u00a0and infrastructural development.<\/p>\n
Prof Sakyi-Dawson, however, appealed to the\u00a0government,\u00a0to consider the polytechnic\u00a0as one of the new institutions in the country to be given special funding from the GETFund,\u00a0to accelerate its infrastructural development.<\/p>\n
She said the funding would further assist the polytechnic to attain its objective as a tertiary institution\u00a0offering\u00a0Bachelor in Technology, Higher National Diploma (HND) programmes and Postgraduate Technology programmes.<\/p>\n
She appealed to students and staff of the Polytechnic, to use dialogue to resolve any differences, cautioning that the Governing Council will be swift and decisive in dealing with any person or group of persons who would use unacceptable ways to disturb the peace of the Polytechnic.<\/p>\n
The Eastern Regional Minister, Antwi-Boasiako Sekyere,\u00a0challenged the graduating students to use the training they have received at the polytechnic to establish their own companies, to help create employment for others.<\/p>\n
The former Rector of the Polytechnic, Prof Raynolds\u00a0Okai,\u00a0advised students who graduated at the HND level, to apply for degree programmes at the polytechnic and continue to the doctorate level.<\/p>\n
He described the situation of going to the university to start a degree programme at level 100 as a waste of time and resources\u00a0of the individual and the nation at large.<\/p>\n
In all,\u00a053 Bachelor of Technology students and as many as 1,711 HND students graduated,\u00a0\u00a0 with the over-all best HND student award going to Godwin Uzoma Chikwere, with\u00a0 Emmanuel Odoom receiving the over-all best award for the Bachelor of Technology programme.<\/p>\n
