Political Science lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah has said the new group of parliamentary candidates were elected in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) primaries held last Saturday is good for the party.

He observed that there is a change blowing on the political landscape, which saw some 24 members of Parliament lose their seats in the NPP’s Parliamentary primaries.

[contextly_sidebar id=”0Hnbymn3eVVw3PYVMQvlvbqV8sGKKVaz”]In the Ashanti region, alone some 13 incumbent NPP MPs will not have the opportunity to return to the House in the 2016 general elections.

Speaking to Citi News, Dr. Richard Amoako Baah noted that the new entrants would increase the fortunes of the party especially in the Ashanti region.

He said the new candidates are focused and “point in the same direction now than before and the distractions [in the party] are less and if you have less distractions in your party, you are more likely to attract new comers because you are united, and you won’t fight.”

“These few ones who have come in, they don’t have that old baggage of belonging to this side or that side, what they know is that they belong to NPP and they are hungry to win.”

The Political science lecturer further added that the new candidate are also “more energized, they are young too…they will use social media, they will go door-to-door, they will invite those who have not been in NPP to join the party.”

“A political party must grow what’s the point of having a political party that does not win election,” he added.
