Renowned preacher, Reverend Eastwood Anaba has asked Ghanaians to learn lessons and prevent the recurrence of last Wednesday’s devastating floods and fire that consumed over 90 people on the spot.

“I pray that Ghana will not forget soon. Our politicians should not forget soon. Our technocrats should not forget soon. Engineers should not forget soon and other extended families should not forget soon,”Anaba prayed.

The incident which occurred at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra compelled the President to declare three days of national mourning for the victims.

A national memorial service was held on Wednesday at the forecourt of the state house to officially end the event.

Speaking at the service, Reverend Eastwood Anaba asked various stakeholders to ensure that such a tragic incident does not reoccur.

The Reverend also emphasized the need for Ghanaians and politicians to assume responsibility and respond to the needs of the affected families.

“Sense of initiative, cowards run away from challenges, in different people, look on while evil thrives. The lazy one wait to be invited before they respond… I pray that we will not be cowards, I pray that we will not be indifferent. I pray that we will not be lazy,” he urged.

Weeping will not solve the problem

The evangelist pointed out that mourning for the departed souls is inevitable but was quick to add that weeping will not resolve various challenges associated with the incident.

“Ghana is in a state of mourning, but weeping does not solve the problem. Positive action, involves expertise. Our engineers, doctors, contractors, businessmen and even the ordinary person in the citizenry must be able to have the necessary expertise to deal with challenges like these..”

He rather advised Ghanaians to cross their ethnic divide in the face of their challenges and reach out for the needy.

“Let us reach out for help and let the collaboration from other people, help us solve our problems. ..Can we cross our political divide, age differentials, social differentials and just go to other people and ask for help”
