{"id":123475,"date":"2015-06-10T07:27:30","date_gmt":"2015-06-10T07:27:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=123475"},"modified":"2015-06-10T07:27:30","modified_gmt":"2015-06-10T07:27:30","slug":"law-for-district-assembly-elections-matures-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/06\/law-for-district-assembly-elections-matures-today\/","title":{"rendered":"Law for District Assembly Elections matures today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The law meant to regulate the conduct of this year\u2019s District Assembly elections, Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 89, will come into force today, June 10, 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;t9HSMS58lWcL9cMTOyYVOMqeg28wYNcd&#8221;]CI 89 will give legal backing to the Electoral Commission (EC) to go ahead and fix a date on which the district level elections will be held after months of dispute in organizing the event.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The District Level Elections Regulations, 2015 (C.I. 89) was laid in Parliament on March 20, 2015 and gazetted on the same day.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The 21 sitting days required by law to mature ends today, after it was presented in Parliament on Tuesday by the Parliaments Subsidiary Legislation Committee.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Electoral Commission postponed the District Level Elections, which was originally scheduled for October 2014 to March 2015.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This was after an aggrieved candidate for the elections, <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong>Benjamin Mensah, filed a suit at the Supreme Court<\/strong><\/span>, seeking, among other things, a declaration that the opening and closing of nominations for the elections prior to the entry into force of the regulations was unconstitutional which he <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/02\/27\/supreme-court-cancels-district-assembly-elections\/#sthash.WIcWimeb.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">won forcing the suspension of the elections<\/a><\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The law meant to regulate the conduct of this year\u2019s District Assembly elections, Constitutional Instrument (C.I) 89, will come into force today, June 10, 2015.
