A New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary aspirant in the Korle Klottey constituency, Nii Noi Nortey has reacted angrily to accusations that he presented a fake University of Ghana certificate to the party’s Vetting Committee.

Speaking on Eyewitness News, Nortey said the accusations do not have any merit.

“I haven’t discussed or submitted any University of Ghana document to anybody or individual…it’s a personal document I submitted to the NPP’s Vetting Committee so if they wish to make claims or open up any issue on the form, so be it before I can answer… I have gone through vetting, I’ve been cleared to contest. Those allegations are false.”

One Joshua Rockson, has reportedly petitioned the Commissioner of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) challenging the authenticity of the certificate Nii Nortey allegedly earned from the University of Ghana.

[contextly_sidebar id=”EU2q0luxNHIhnv33jYL0Jypw3d75FL8J”]Although Nii Nortey will not categoricallly deny the accusations, he said he is convinced that the party’s Appeal’s Committee will fairly deal with the matter.

“The matters are pending before the National Appeals committee. It will be wrong for me to be making comments before appearing before the committee. So I’m telling you that after the Appeals Committee they will bring out their verdict and you will know whether I attended the University of Ghana or not,” he fumed.

He also refuted claims that he was invited to the CID headquarters in Accra.

Meanwhile, speaking in a seperate interview with Citi News’ Franklin Badu Jnr, Nii Noi Nortey described the allegations as “propaganda” being used by his opponents.

He said, “I wouldn’t say some persons are trying to make things difficult, I would say it’s a competition so I expect more of these and even worse things that could happen.”

When asked why he feels such claims were being peddled by his opponents, Nii Nortey explained that “because it’s a competition and they know they are losing, they know they are not on the grounds, they know the delegates will not vote for them that’s why they are bringing up these issues.”

“These are internal elections we are about going and I don’t believe as a party man, if an opponent in an internal election has an issue even like that, I don’t believe I will run to the media to wash our dirty linings out there because what I’m doing is that I’m exposing the party to the main opposition parties. So I believe internal elections we don’t play these kind of propaganda issues and stuff like that,” he added.

An aspirant in the same Constituency, Philip Addison had accused Nii Noi Nortey of stabbing him in the back after earlier supporting his parliamentary ambitions.

Nii Nortey who was the NPP Korle Klottey Constituency Chairman resigned few days back to contest in the parliamentary primaries.

12 constituencies can’t vote

As the New Patriotic Party (NPP) prepares for its Parliamentary primaries on Saturday, June 13, delegates in 12 constituencies will not have the opportunity to elect a candidate.

The 12 constituencies which are spread across the Greater Accra, Western, Volta, Ashanti and Upper West Regions are grappling with issues concerning the candidature of some of the aspirants.

Bia East, Bia West, Juaboso and Akontonbra in the Western Region will be excused from voting following a request by the rRegional executives of the party.

The party’s Regional Secretary, Charles Bissue said the elections in these constituencies had to be suspended for strategic reasons. Also, delegates of the party in Nadoli Kaloe in the Upper West Region and Nkwanta South in the Volta Region will not vote.

The party has furthermore put on hold, elections in Klottey Korle, Obam Domeabra, Manhyia North, Kumawu Juabeng and Akrofuom.
