The Convention People’s Party (CPP) has hinted that the merger with the People’s National Convention (PNC) may not be completed before the 2016 general elections.

[contextly_sidebar id=”mUmAL5tDHACFyW9TOhJbZ4QlaQktccpt”]According to the CPP, more closed door discussions, as well as sacrifices have to be made on both sides but the time left for the next elections may not be enough to complete these.

According to the National Chairman of the CPP, Samia Yaba Nkrumah, the two parties are however committed to the merger.

“Perhaps it will not materialize, because a merger entails sacrificing something like your name or your symbol, and we want to carry the party along to avoid the previous situations where at the last minute someone will withdraw. We want to do it seriously and we have to fulfill all the requirement a merger entails,” She explained.

Meanwhile she indicated that “the PNC is ready to forgo the name and they are asking us to forgo our symbol but these matter has to be disclosed to our respective party members because it will also entails fusing our executives at various levels.”

According to her, the PNC and CPP hold similar ideologies of bringing back the ideology of Kwame Nkrumah.

But she called for “a broader consultations to indeed satisfy all the conditions, sacrifices and critical decisions which have to be made before the full merger takes place.”
