Despite several calls for comments on the police investigations into the death of Adam Mahama to cease, one group remains determined to see Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, the National Chairman and the General Secretary of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) face justice for their alleged involvement in the murder.<\/p>\n
The group, calling itself Justice for Adam Mahama Youth (JAMY), have called on the Inspector General of Police to bring the two in for questioning “with immediate effect.”<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”IODzn5H1QaMyZEnJnqAro5hAOPjcuMNT”]In a statement released on Sunday, the group outlined several aspects of the charge sheet in the case against Gregory Afoko, a suspect in the murder of the party’s Upper East Regional Chairman and the brother of the NPP National Chairman.<\/p>\n
According to the group, the Police’s version of the events which led to Adam Mahama’s death clearly indicated the involvement of both Afoko (Paul) and Agyepong in the incident.<\/p>\n
They argued that there is an attempt by the National Chairman and people associated with him to manipulate evidence in order to get his brother released from jail.<\/p>\n
“The investigative team recovered items including a gallon supposedly containing acid and a cup from the scene. However, the motorbike in question has been left in Bolga and we are aware there are attempts to swap the said bike for another to be brought to Accra in its place. The motorbike used in the crime should be sent to Accra for forensic investigations. We have the particulars of the bike and are keenly observing.”<\/p>\n
They also expressed worry over the amount of information related to the case that they claim the police are divulging to Paul Afoko.<\/p>\n
“It is significant to note that from Mr. Paul Afoko\u2019s interview [on Adom FM], he is privy to classified information from the police from the onset of the investigations and continues to be informed every step of the way as to what the investigations is uncovering. The question is why the police will keep him informed of their investigations'” the statement said.<\/p>\n
According to JAMY, \u00a0a failure by the police to invite Agyepong and Afoko in for questioning over the murder “will be seen as political hogwash seeking to muddy the waters, render the murder a political issue and bin it” an act they claim they “will not tolerate.”<\/p>\n
The group claim the police have not done a professional job so far but they will “give them the benefit of doubt to prove themselves”<\/p>\n
