Management of GOIL fuel station has said it lost eight employees in Wednesday’s fire explosion at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”TIFNsMzxW6AnObILWHvPvfol6PrdLv77″]The company has also expressed its commitment to partner with other stakeholders to investigate the incident.<\/p>\n

“We are fully committed to partnering all stakeholders in all investigations surrounding this disaster,” GOIL noted in a statement.<\/p>\n

Scores of Ghanaians died while seeking shelter at the GOIL fuel station during the heavy downpour on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

About 150 people have so far been confirmed to have died in the incident.<\/p>\n

President John Mahama has declared three days of national mourning for the victims.<\/p>\n

GOIL, in a statement noted that the Board, Management and Staff “remain totally shocked and share in the pain of all families and friends who lost their lives.”<\/p>\n

It said the fateful day “goes down as a dark day in the annals of GOIL and Ghana.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile prominent political figures have called on government and other agencies to fix perennial floods.<\/p>\n

The Progressive People’s Party’s (PPP), Kwesi Ndoum on Thursday chastised government<\/a><\/strong><\/span> for not taking measures to fix the problem, saying “we have to take some measures to avoid this in the future. Often when these measures are drastic, you have a lot of sympathy and pressure not to take these measures. But I think the time has come for us to move houses out of the waterways. The public should understand that it is necessary to take such measures to save everybody else.”<\/p>\n
