The party is formed by the flagbearer of the United Front Party (UFP), Akwasi Addae, popularly known as “Odike”.

Odike; a popular footwear dealer in Kumasi in the Ashanti Region was elected flagbearer of the UFP but he was later sacked by the party’s National Executive Committee ahead of the 2012 general elections for incompetence.

Speaking to Citi News after receiving the certification for his new party, Odike said the UPP’s main focus is to win the 2016 election with its job creation message.

He admitted that the two main political parties in Ghana – the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) have a large following but the vision of the UPP will help them emerge winners in the 2016 elections.

According to him, the UPP has all the needed structures in place to help them kick out the governing NDC.

“It is clear that we are going to contest the 2016 elections because we are ready; we have the structures already in place.”
