A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr Kobina Arthur Kennedy has chastised Nana Akufo-Addo for not condemning the moves by some party executives in an attempt to remove the National Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyepong during his recent press conference.

[contextly_sidebar id=”jolZ99Ghc5q7uhP0y1Jv4xqB8pyHvahm”]Nana Akufo-Addo on Friday broke his long silence over the continuous internal wrangling in the party, following the death of the Upper East Regional Chairman, Adam Mahama.

Some NPP executives in about 9 regions across the country had earlier petitioned the National Executive Council (NEC) to ask Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong to respectively step down from their positions.

But Speaking on Citi Fm’s News analysis programme, The Big Issue, on Saturday, Arthur Kennedy noted that though the press conference “was a good start” he said Nana failed to touch on two issues.

“Most people in the NEC have already revealed their stance. The same NEC people have been inundated with a number of petitions. So first, Nana Addo should have unequivocally condemned the impeachment procedures that was the key essential for peace. The second thing is that he should have gone to the press conference with Agyepong on his left and Afoko on his right and called for peace,” he remarked.

Arthur Kennedy stated that such petitions against the two elected national executives does not auger well for the party and must not be condoned.

“When people go to congress and contest positions, they are entitled to hold the positions except for illness, death or something extraordinary. For some time now, it has been occurring that there have been some people who are determined not to let Mr Afoko and Mr Agyepong serve their term and the two of them as they are entitled, are determined to serve the mandate.”

He further argued that the current confusion in the NPP could stop “If people stop trying to hound them [Afoko and Agyepong] out of office.”

Nana Akufo-Addo among other things, called for calm and advised the party’s “Invisible Forces” to allow Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyepong, access into their offices at the NPP Head office in Accra.
