The Ghana Bar Association (GBA) has appealed to the Judiciary to deal promptly with any individual implicated in the murder of the Upper East Regional chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).<\/p>\n
In a statement signed by the leadership of the GBA said a swift prosecution will serve as a \u201cdeterrent to other persons with similar inclinations to engage in such barbaric and criminal acts.\u201d<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”EZ1b6NvhqqRBxEStho9enHjjRUQi8jFB”]The association also admonished the law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate and bring the perpetrators of this \u201cdastardly and cowardly act\u201d to book.<\/p>\n
Since the murder of the NPP\u2019s Upper East Regional chairman, Adam Mahama through an acid attack<\/a><\/strong><\/span>, there have been calls for the Ghana Police Service to fast track investigations to forestall reprisal attacks which could affect the security situation in the country.<\/p>\n According to the GBA, the attack is a \u201cvery serious blight on Ghana\u2019s democratic credentials as our constitution recognizes as a fundamental right the individual\u2019s freedom of thought, conscience and belief and disagreement is a core ingredient in the rule of law and democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n They remarked that no matter the circumstances which may have led to Adam Mahama\u2019s death, \u201cthere is more than enough space under the canopy of our democratic experiment for divergent views.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cTherefore, it is most despicable and unacceptable that such an incident should occur at a time when Ghana is touted as a beacon of African democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n The GBA advised the leaders and supporters of all political parties in Ghana to exercise maximum restraint in all cases and to remember that the \u201cquest to rule our dear nation is a contest of ideas and that the individual\u2019s right to life is inviolable.\u201d<\/p>\n They however expressed their condolences to the bereaved family over the untimely loss of their family member.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Efua Idan Osam\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
