The management of the Agricultural Development Bank (adb) has dragged the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance worker (UNICOF) to the National Labour Commission (NLC).

The bank is accusing the workers of exhibiting unfair labour practices and for displaying bad faith.

[contextly_sidebar id=”Hsx569taAZUJYN9PhbT8CZtjfosBuNIb”]In a petition dated May 19, 2015 and signed by the Executive Head of Human Resource, Akwelley Bulley, the bank is requesting the NLC to call UNICOF to order since the union’s continuous display of unfair labour practices is negatively affecting the finances of the bank.

Following the petition, the Labour Commission has also written to UNICOF to study the complaint and respond to the issues by next week Tuesday.

General Secretary of UNICOF, John Esiape confirmed receipt of the petition and stated that it has been referred to their lawyers.

According to him however, taking a cursory look at the petition, it is evident that the management of adb is employing diversionary tactics to take public attention away from the critical issues affecting the bank.

But he served notice that the management’s scheming will not succeed because “the fact is that adb has been run down and those who have run it down want more money to do what? We must be serious as a country.”

Mr. Esiape also told Citi News, the workers have withdrawn their petition they had earlier sent to the Labour Commission over an intended strike.

He indicated that it is necessary for the workers to pursue other alternatives to press home their demands.

“That is why in our own wisdom, we have withdrawn the notice. Again, on this particular matter, we felt at a certain point that it may not be necessary for a strike at this time but there are other issues we can embark on a strike over and we are considering our options.”

The workers of adb are demanding the dissolution of the governing board and the dismissal of the MD, Stephen Kpordzih for allegedly running down the bank.

The workers also kicked against the planned sale of shares of the bank through an Initial Public Offering (IPO) and called for a detailed audit into the operations of the bank before the going public and government’s intervention in the matter led to the suspension of the IPO and the sale of the banks former head office.

The board of governors in a detailed statement refuted all the allegations leveled against them.

The workers are still making demands and at a point threatened to lay down their tools but the government has referred them to the NLC.
