A founding member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) George Ayisi Boateng is calling on the party’s General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong and National Chairman Paul Afoko to resign.

[contextly_sidebar id=”rrtBmQAbwEEBEdovKDKKIq9nF0olEq2I”]Mr. Ayisi Boateng who is Chairman of the party’s Council of Elders in the Ashanti Region says Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong have made the party unpopular among the citizenry hence his suggestion.

His comment comes on the back of the death of the Upper East Regional Chairman of the NPP, Adam Mahama which happened on Thursday after an acid attack.

George Ayisi Boateng told Citi News, he will lead a crusade to get Paul Afoko and Kwabena Agyapong out of office if they fail to resign.

“Governments have come and gone, general secretaries have come and gone and there had been no time in our party that this kind of rumpus had developed.”

He explained that though there may be internal wranglings in the party, to avert such things as a leader “depends on one’s owns way of carrying himself about his work. It depends on one’s own way of relating to people in the party. It depends on one’s own way of the kind of approach to issues and matters pertaining to the party.”

“I think its hard time that the two [Afoko and Agyapong] should advise themselves but if they will not, it should be pushed as a party on them and further calls for a thorough investigations into their conduct, behaviours, attitudes and whatever,” he added.

NPP needs cleansing

Meanwhile, Deputy Minority Leader in Parliament, Dominic Nitiwul has opined that the NPP needs cleansing following the violent acts reported in the party.

“The party needs real cleansing…a party that worked creditably while in office and opposition should not be experiencing what is happening. Every day after election, one trouble after the other, I don’t think that is what the party wants,” he fumed.
