Some Police officers at Upper Weija in Accra have allegedly brutalized a worker of the Ghana Water Company (GWCL) for disconnecting an illegal water connection to their residence.

[contextly_sidebar id=”eZtZBWPBpANiyVTI9aSfC8nW3E9wG9KX”]The officers were alleged to have illegally re-connected water supply to their rented quarters after an initial disconnection in April this year over non-payment of bills amounting to GHC 12,000.

Upon detection, the GWCL dispatched four officers to go and permanently disconnect the water supply and remove the meter.

But the officers reportedly attacked one of the GWCL personnel called Samuel Gyasi, locked him up and forced him to undo the disconnection.

The GWCL’s Communications Manager, Nana Yaw Barimah Barnieh on Eyewitness News narrated that “two Police officers pounced on the gentleman, held him by the waist and the other held him by his balls [tescticles] and dragged him into the house and instructed him to reconnect the pipe otherwise they are not going to allow him to go.”

Samuel Gyasi was detained for almost two hours until Mr…called a Police Commissioner who instructed the release of the Gyasi.

Gyasi was then given a Police form to seek medical attention at the Cocoa Clinic in Accra.

Presently, he has been given a Doctoer’s report which has been submitted to the Police.

Mr Barimah Barnieh was however unable to give clear details on the Doctor’s report which was given to Gyasi after the medical examination.

“Not being a Doctor myself, I am unable to read what the Doctor has written but…there are two things the Doctor has written…so I am unable to tell you exactly the injury the gentleman has sustained.

Mr. Barimah Barnieh indicated that Gyasi now limps when he walks and has been complaining of severe pains in his lower abdomen and waist pain.

According to him, he has been informed that “some big men in the Police Service have gone to our head office and they are in touch with our management and they are discussing what exactly should be done so I believe the right thing will be done.”

Gyasi in an interview on Eyewitness News said although his manhood is intact, he is experiencing serious pains “on my back and in my balls.”

He clarified that throughout the incident; he did not say anything to provoke the officers to warrant the treatment meted out to him.
