Pressure Group, \u00a0Alliance for Accountable Governance (AFAG) has said it will embark on a series of demonstrations to force the\u00a0 National Petroleum Authority (NPA) and government to reduce fuel prices.<\/p>\n
The group has described the 9% increment in petroleum products as “unrealistic” and “politically incorrect.”<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”rHBEnqZA1W1OMHemdz0tiSeXhE4K7ZmX”]”\u00a0We are shocked at the unconscionable attitude of the National Petroleum Authority and the NDC government in the midst of Ghana’s worst economic performance under John Mahama,” the Director of Operation of AFAG, Abu Ramadan told Citi News.<\/p>\n
“If you want to kill us, don’t be killing us slowly, kill us once and for all so that we know that government does not have the interest of the people at heart”<\/p>\n
The group in a statement, further noted \u00a0that “in the wake of the current precarious and deplorable economic situation of the Ghanaian it makes no sense for government to further impoverish the people of Ghana with excessive taxation on goods and services.”<\/p>\n
“This fuel price increase is no good news to businesses. It is\u00a0a double jeopardy to businesses as it\u2019s already burdened with high capital expenditure on generator purchases, maintenance\u00a0and operational cost vis-a-vis Dumsor.”<\/p>\n
AFAG \u00a0criticised the President for what they described as \u00a0his “poverty of understanding of economic management amidst large scale corruption rocking his administration leaving him to the harsh external dictates of the IMF.”<\/p>\n
It believes the fuel price increase is “just the IMF unobtrusively in attendance.”<\/p>\n
The group therefore charged the President to work harder since “such economic practices can hurt the moral fabric of the country.”<\/p>\n
“It will be of great good to the Ghanaian if the president can attempt to sit up to work. There is too much hopeless in the system,” it added.<\/p>\n
The NPA announced a 9 % increment<\/a><\/strong> <\/span>in petroleum products last Sunday; an increase, many deem as insensitive.<\/p>\n The NPA has however justified<\/strong><\/span> its decision, saying a price increase of commodities in the world market influenced its decision.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Marian Efe Ansah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana
