Thousands of Ghanaians attended the much anticipated ‘Dumsormuststop vigil’ in Accra on Saturday.<\/p>\n

The protestors clad in red and black outfits marched from the Total Filling station opposite the University of Ghana to the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange here in the Greater Accra Region.<\/p>\n

The vigil was led by Yvonne Nelson and other celebrities such as Efya, DKB, Sydney,Van Vicker and a host of others.<\/p>\n

Comedian David Oscar who had recently been in the news for vilifying the organizers joined the protest.<\/p>\n

Also, the\u00a0National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) Alhaji Halidu Haruna who called the female\u00a0celebrities championing the event “as unmarried prostitutes” on his Facebook page attempted to join the group.<\/p>\n

He was however whisked away by the Police after participants hooted and attempted to beat him up.<\/p>\n

Lawyer for the celebrities, Kofi Bentil said the protest is a “revelation that people are indeed suffering from the power crisis.”<\/p>\n

One of the main organizers, Sarkodie, could not attend the event because he is away in the United States. Outspoken actress, Lydia Forson was also absent.<\/p>\n

The peaceful protest was aimed at pressurizing government to resolve the three-year power crisis which is hurting businesses.<\/p>\n

Citi FM’s<\/strong> Godwin Allotey reported that “some protesters came with ‘bobo’, lanterns and torch lights, which they lit as the night fell.”<\/p>\n
