The US Embassy in Ghana says it closely monitoring the on-going prosecution of the alleged murderers of two African American citizens.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”OPOw0pSvIQxRi79o9utYVIDULxsPnaqq”]The Embassy said it expects to maintain close contact with the Ghana Police Service to get updates on the trial.<\/p>\n
The two leaders of the African-American community in Akwamu; 75-year-old Mamlena and 60-year-old Nzinga were kidnapped, murdered and buried in a shallow grave 300 meters away from their residence in Akwamufie in the Eastern Region.<\/p>\n
Some six persons have been arrested and are facing prosecution.<\/p>\n
Various US Embassy officers have been in direct communication with the Ghana Police Service, even though the specifics of the discussions are unknown.<\/p>\n
According to the Embassy, they have confidence in Ghana\u2019s legal justice system and are therefore hopeful the suspects will be brought to book.<\/p>\n
In an interview with Citi News’<\/strong> Rabiu Alhassan, the Information Officer of the United States Embassy in Accra, Jeanne L. Clark said: “We have confidence in the Ghana justice system and we are continuing to work towards a just result following the death of the two Americans.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201c…we do recognize Ghana’s legal jurisdiction for crimes committed in Ghana and we are cooperating with the local authorities as they continue with their investigation.”<\/p>\n Already, one of the suspected murderers, Anokye Frimpong has confessed to committing the crime.<\/p>\n Five other suspects currently on trial include, Nana Appia-Nti III, a mechanic, Nana Obiri Yeboah, a farmer, Brenda Kareema Mohammed, a pensioner, Yazid Alazim Mohammed, a businessman and Mensah Kamaugogo Muata, a surgeon assistant .<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Rabiu Alhassan\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The US Embassy in Ghana says it closely monitoring the on-going prosecution of the alleged murderers of two African American citizens.
