President John Mahama has named Sole Commissioner, Justice Yaw Apau and a former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Lawyer Gabriel Pwamang for seats on Ghana\u2019s Supreme Court.<\/p>\n
The two nominations came to Parliament on Tuesday and were read to members of Parliament by the Speaker, Edward Doe Adjaho.<\/p>\n
The nominations are in line with the provisions of Article 144(2) of the 1992 Constitution.<\/p>\n
According to the President\u2019s communication to the House, he made the nominations after consultations with both the Judicial Council and the Council State.<\/p>\n
The Speaker has since referred the nominations to the Appointments Committee of Parliament.<\/p>\n
By the rules of the House, the Committee will in the next few days meet to draw a programme for their vetting.<\/p>\n
A formal notice will then be issued to the public to submit memos on the nominees as to why they should or should not be given jobs on the apex court.<\/p>\n
