The management of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has denied the suspension of health services at its Out Patient Clinics.<\/p>\n
They however admitted a gap in the staff schedule as a result of the exit of one hundred and fifty and fifty house officers who completed their service to the hospital two weeks ago.<\/p>\n
The new house officers are expected to be inducted by the Medical and Dental Council this Friday and they are expected to be posted to the hospital in two weeks.<\/p>\n
Speaking to Citi News, the Chief Executive Officer of the KBTH, Dr Gilbert Buckle said the Out Patient Clinics were not operating to full capacity as a result of the exit of the house officers.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat is happening now is that we are having to restructure our services so that we can take care of the in-patients and out-patients work load. It is just that patients will be having a longer waiting time. It is not that services have been stopped or anything,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He stated that a fresh batch of 150 house officers will be employed in the clinics in two weeks after their induction and graduation by the Medical and Dental Council.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere is a new batch which will be posted in two weeks. We cannot replace 150 staff in a day. It is a cyclical process, every year staff are posted when they finish their rotation they leave and every year there is a gap. So it is about managing that two week gap. When that happens the system will slow down till you can fill in the numbers that you need. So this is not out of the blue. It happens every time\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
