Award winning Ghanaian actress and producer, Yvonne Nelson says the amount of money she spends fueling her generator set in a month can foot her one-year electricity bill.<\/p>\n

[contextly_sidebar id=”7H4z3gPqyshdfricjuBJBRrrw5C4x8jd”]”I have a generator at home but I have to buy GHC 50 [worth of fuel] every day and at my office, I have to buy GHC 50 every day.\u00a0GHC 50 multiplied by a month is about GHC 1,500 and I can actually use this GHC 1,500 for a whole year if I have to use electricity from ECG [Electricity Company of Ghana].<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson further stated that her income cannot continue to support the fueling of the generators just as the many Ghanaians out there who have been forced to buy generators to power their homes and businesses.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m not even getting enough [income] to live that kind of life and I believe that the average Ghanaian is going through worse,” she complained.<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson last week took to social media in\u00a0a series of tweets<\/strong> <\/a>complained about<\/span>\u00a0the situation and accused the government of failing to fix the problem.<\/p>\n

She, together with her colleagues in the industry are planning to embark on a peaceful candlelight vigil<\/a><\/strong><\/span> to protest the persistent energy crisis which they say is affecting their businesses.<\/p>\n

Their lawyers are in talks with the Police to enable them secure a permit for the vigil slated for May 16, 2015.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Eyewitness News<\/strong>, Yvonne Nelson lamented that Ghanaians have endured the energy crisis for three years and currently, \u201cthis is beyond us, we are frustrated, we are tired and the government has to deliver.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to her, it is high time the Mahama government told citizens the truth about the problem saying, \u201cwe need to know the truth and something has to be done ASAP [As Soon As Possible]!\u201d<\/p>\n

Ms Nelson indicated that the planned vigil is aimed at sending a message to the leaders of the country that Ghanaians are tired of enduring the constant erratic supply of electricity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are trying the send a message across. We are doing this vigil – it\u2019s a peaceful candlelight vigil\u2026Sarkodie is on board, D Black is on board, Nikki Samonas, Kwaku Elliot, Deborah Vanessa, DKB \u2013 we are all trying to get together. We are doing this vigil and need our voices to be heard.\u201d<\/p>\n

She urged the general public to join them on May 16 because \u201cwe are all Ghanaians and I believe that we are all suffering. Ghanaians are suffering, I am suffering\u2026we want our voices to be heard.\u201d<\/p>\n
