The Police are yet to approve a\u00a0planned vigil by some celebrities to protest against the current power crisis.<\/p>\n
The organizers of the protest include actresses Yvonne Nelson and Lydia Forson, comedian DKB and rapper Sarkodie.<\/p>\n
A letter of notification authored by the lawyers of the celebrities to the police and sighted by Citi News indicates that the group intends to embark on a vigil on May 16, 2015 at the University of Ghana.<\/p>\n

But sources at the Accra Regional Police Command tell citi News that the command is yet to consider the request sent by the artists.<\/p>\n
The source also told Citi News that the police will assess the request and respond appropriately.<\/p>\n
Per the Public Order Act, 1994, any group that seeks to organise a public event must notify the police of their intentions.<\/p>\n
The police have on some occasions, secured a court order to prevent certain public events from taking place.<\/p>\n
The recent power challenges have compelled some celebrities to express their outrage on social media, a situation which has provoked scathing remarks from some loyalists of government.<\/p>\n
A letter, they wrote to the Police seeking clearance and protection for the event, stated that the vigil will be in the \u201cform of a peaceful procession with lit candles, touches, lanterns and bobo.\u201d<\/p>\n
Ghana has been battling with inconsistent power supply in the country following three years of erratic power generation.<\/p>\n
