allowances- students"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ghanaian students studying in Turkey have jumped to the defense of teacher and nursing trainees who are mounting pressure on government to restore their allowances.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They are convinced that restoration of the student allowances especially that of teacher trainees have positive effect on education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Government in 2013 scrapped the teacher trainee allowances after elevating teacher trainee colleges to Colleges of Education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3802.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-113907\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3802.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3802\" width=\"669\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3802.jpg 669w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3802-300x202.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 669px) 100vw, 669px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Minister for Education, Professor Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang defended government\u2019s action with the explanation that government could not continue with the allowances policy because of Colleges of Education status.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This decision has since created uproar between government and leadership of teacher trainee associations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several petitions by leadership of teacher trainees presented to President John Dramani Mahama proved futile.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But Ghanaian students studying in Turkey have asked government to reconsider its decision.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3657.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-113905\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3657.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3657\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3657.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_3657-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Acting President of the Ghanaian Students Association in Turkey, Hussein Alhassan in a <strong>Citi News<\/strong> interview said government\u2019s decision was ill-informed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He observed with deep concern that Ghana\u2019s teachers\u2019 deficit was very high for which reason efforts must be made to overturn the trend.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cWithout educated citizens there is no way that a country can talk of development and looking at education one can only have access to it if he has the resources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Hussein Alhassan admonished government to allocate enough resources for the education sector by making it possible for every child of school going age to have access to quality education.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_38361.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-113908\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_38361.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_3836[1]\" width=\"600\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_38361.jpg 600w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/05\/IMG_38361-300x225.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Citi News<\/strong> gathered that African students studying in Turkey on Turkish government and philanthropists\u2019 scholarship receive close to $600 Dollars as monthly allowance.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Those reading masters receive $400 Dollars whilst PHD students receive $550 Dollars.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">They have free accommodation, feeding grant and do not pay for utility bills.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ghanaian students studying in Turkey have jumped to the defense of teacher and nursing trainees who are mounting pressure on government to restore their allowances.
