Labour has served notice that it will soon demand higher wages and better working conditions due to the increasing economic hardship in the country.

This was disclosed to Citi News by the General Secretary of the Union of Industry, Commerce and Finance Workers (UNICOF) of the Trades Union Congress (TUC) John Esiape.

[contextly_sidebar id=”gYVpZhvfKjlmCJdDEHh74V0LeiQSd1ba”]A series of demonstrations have been staged by organised labour to force government to respond to their grievances.

Some labour groups known for their frequent threats of industrial action include teachers, doctors and nurses.

President Mahama has however stated emphatically that his government will not be coerced into over spending in 2016 by the weight of demands and strikes of workers.

He revealed how the various demonstrations against his government has in a way toughened his government against such actions.

But the UNICOF General secretary has cautioned the President to shun his “dead ghost” stance and seek consensus on how to improve their living conditions whiles ensuring fiscal discipline.

“I cannot understand how we will not pressure government to meet our demands. If two dead goats decide to fight you can imagine. So far Labour has not labelled itself as dead goats yet but we hope it won’t get there but man must live and when there is pressure on the worker anything at all can happen,” Mr, Esiape said.
