Police in the Northern region have condemned the shooting to death of a thirty-six year-old farmer in Bunkprugu by armed military men.<\/p>\n
They have further started investigations into what might have necessitated the shooting.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”u15cFW9qlnQRDNd5BltSJIrpFTAtiP2B”]The deceased, Jabiuk Duut was allegedly shot through the window of his bedroom on Friday, by the armed men for breaching the curfew imposed on the town.<\/p>\n
Jabuk \u00a0Duut is reported to have taken to his heels and entered his bedroom upon realizing that the military had spotted him outside his house, during the curfew hours.<\/p>\n
Family members of the victim have expressed shock at the incident and are questioning why their brother who was unarmed at the time should be killed.<\/p>\n
The soldier suspected to have shot the man has since been arrested by the police.<\/p>\n
Bunkprugu Yunyoo, District Police Commander, ASP Felix Kumado told Citi News<\/strong> on Sunday that the military men had no right to shoot the victim even if he broke curfew.<\/p>\n \u201cEven if the man broke curfew, the fact that he run into his bedroom upon seeing the military men is enough reason to say that he was petrified in the first place, so why shoot him, he quizzed.<\/p>\n \u201cNo one is above the law, whether police, military or even the President.We have received conflicting reports regarding this matter so we have launched a full scale investigation into the incident.If the officers really shot him through the window as is being alleged, then they [officers] will not go scot free.\u201d<\/p>\n ASP Felix Kumado said that the police were gathering all the evidence available in order to make a case.<\/p>\n Violent Chieftaincy clashes in the Bunkprugu Township which led to the death of two people two weeks ago, led to the imposition of dusk to dawn curfew there.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, the eleven suspects who were apprehended last week in connection with the chieftaincy clashes are expected to appear before court on May 4.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Pearl Akanya Ofori\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n
