The Teacher Trainees’ Association of Ghana (TTAG) has said its members will not pay utility bills despite government’s directive instructing them and other tertiary students to do so.

Tertiary students across the country would from next academic year pay for their utility bills.

[contextly_sidebar id=”WdaUooW6yga4uDZp6GO0DJ7VJCyQfaVX”]However addressing a press conference in Accra the National President of TTAG, Daniel Osei Kofi said the 38 teacher training institutions across the country will resist the implementation of the directive.

“On the payment of utility bills, we want to state categorically that students of colleges of education will not and cannot pay for utility bills and shall resist any attempt by government to do so.”

They have therefore asked government to either rescind its decision or face their wrath.

In another development, the group has declared its support for any government or political party who will show goodwill with the restoration of teacher trainee allowances.

Government scraped the allowances over two years ago explaining that the move was to ensure equity and fairness in the educational system and equip existing colleges with the necessary facilities.

Speaking to Citi News, the National Coordinator of TTAG, Jacob Ladzekpo emphasized that TTAG will shore up the political chances of the any group which shows interest in their plight.

“We have said that we want the restoration of our allowance . For us our interest is not only on mere promises, we want to practical roadmap. We want to see practical roadmap. Until we see those things, we are not just not going to follow anybody.”
