The General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Worker’s union is demanding that the National Labour commission resolves the dispute between workers of Schlumberger and management through voluntary arbitration.

This comes after several engagements on salary and condition of service negotiations between both parties ended in a deadlock.

The workers recently declared an indefinite strike after a similar breakdown in negotiation, but had to call of the strike following orders from the National Labour Commission to do so.

Speaking to Citi Business News, the deputy general secretary of the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Worker’s union Francis Sallah said they are confident of a positive ruling.

‘There will be a panel of arbitrators and both parties should be able to convince them of why they need what they want. For us the evidence we have is enough for the arbitrators to rule in our favour”.

According to Mr. Francis Sallah,”when we got to the negotiating table the offer they made was not enticing enough, so we refused them …on salary at our last sitting they were on 3% and we feel this is inadequate and we want a minimum of 1200”.

The National Labour Commission is expected to receive a formal communication from the General Transport, Petroleum and Chemical Worker’s union about their position today.
