{"id":110705,"date":"2015-04-23T06:59:22","date_gmt":"2015-04-23T06:59:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=110705"},"modified":"2015-04-23T06:59:22","modified_gmt":"2015-04-23T06:59:22","slug":"how-kkds-alleged-rape-case-unfolded","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/04\/how-kkds-alleged-rape-case-unfolded\/","title":{"rendered":"How KKD\u2019s alleged rape case unfolded"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Ace broadcaster, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) was on Wednesday discharged by an Accra high court after rape charges against him were dropped.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He had denied the rape charges saying it was consensual.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Below is how the story unfolded:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"line-height: 1.5;\">KKD was arrested Saturday, December 27, 2014 following the alleged rape.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong> Withdrawal of case<\/strong><br \/>\nOn January 12, 2015 the Ewuraeffe expressed her disinterest in pursuing the case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">She, subsequently communicated her decision to the police and also informed the Attorney General, the Registrar of the High Court and the Chief Justice.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>KKD\u2019s apology<\/strong><br \/>\nOn the 13th of January 2015, KKD issued a statement where he asked the public to forgive him for the ridicule and disgrace he had caused to the victim and her family and also to his family.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Bail<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">After the apology KKD was granted bail by the Human Rights Division of the Accra High Court on humanitarian grounds on January 15, 2015 two days after his apology.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The court had considered his ill-health as a factor, saying it was unfair for him to remain in police custody while undergoing medical treatment at his own expense.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He was granted bail in the sum of GH\u00a220,000, with two sureties.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>Committal to trial<\/strong><br \/>\nHe was committed to trial at the high by the Kaneshie magistrate court on the 18th of February and appeared before the high on the 18th of March where the case was adjourned \u00a0Wednesday, April 21, 2015 to allow a seven member jury to be formed to start hearing of the case.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Prosecutors\u00a0filed a nolle prosequi to discontinue the case citing the victim&#8217;s refusal to testify in court and failure to get more witnesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Fred Djabanor\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ace broadcaster, Kwesi Kyei Darkwa (KKD) was on Wednesday discharged by an Accra high court after rape charges against him were dropped.
