{"id":110618,"date":"2015-04-22T15:25:46","date_gmt":"2015-04-22T15:25:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=110618"},"modified":"2015-04-22T15:25:46","modified_gmt":"2015-04-22T15:25:46","slug":"govt-combats-illegal-mining-in-bole","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/04\/govt-combats-illegal-mining-in-bole\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t combats illegal mining in Bole"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Government is taking steps to stop illegal mining activities gaining notoriety in the Bole district of the Northern Region.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The trade is rampant especially in the Banda-Nkwanta area where so far several deaths have been recorded.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reports have it that eight dead bodies were recently retrieved from mining pits which caved on some illegal miners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Citi News gathered that some students in the Bole district have abandoned school and were engaged in the trade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It was also uncovered that some politicians were deeply involved in the trade, hence the difficulty in stopping it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Reliable sources there on grounds of anonymity told <strong>Citi News<\/strong> that some chiefs in the Banda-Nkwanta area were supporting the illegal miners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-110620\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners.jpg\" alt=\"illegal miners\" width=\"768\" height=\"529\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners-300x207.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The illegal miners have by extension invaded the Bui National Park and continued to deplete the environment.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Several water bodies have been polluted whilst farmlands have also been destroyed.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">It is against this backdrop government is taking steps to overturn the trade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/mahama-ayariga-illegal-miners.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-110622\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/mahama-ayariga-illegal-miners.jpg\" alt=\"mahama ayariga illegal miners\" width=\"574\" height=\"768\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/mahama-ayariga-illegal-miners.jpg 574w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/mahama-ayariga-illegal-miners-224x300.jpg 224w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 574px) 100vw, 574px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">At a meeting with the Minister for\u00a0Science, Environment and Technology, Mahama Ayariga during his recent working visit, the chief of Banda-Nkwanta, Duwa-Wura, Joseph Kelli Sakara reiterated the need for government to either authorize the trade or stop harassing the miners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Mahama Ayariga condemned the trade but maintained that government would adopt dialogue as the best approach to stop the trade.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners-2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-110619\" src=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners-2.jpg\" alt=\"illegal miners (2)\" width=\"768\" height=\"574\" srcset=\"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners-2.jpg 768w, https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/04\/illegal-miners-2-300x224.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201cMining is a perfectly legal business if done according to law: what is happening is that they are not doing it according to law.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said, \u201cThat is why for me I want to engage them and use dialogue to find a lasting solution to the problem.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">According to the Minister, government was spending huge sums on evacuating people trapped under the mining pits.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">&#8211;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/citifmonlne.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Government is taking steps to stop illegal mining activities gaining notoriety in the Bole district of the Northern Region.
