Former Bafana Bafana midfielder John \u201cShoes\u201d Moshoeu has passed away after a long battle with cancer.<\/p>\n
The former Kaizer Chiefs star passed away on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
His agent, Glyn Binkin, confirmed his death on Twitter. In May 2014, Moshoeu hung up his boots after spending several seasons with third-tier side Alexandra United. Moshoeu, a Kaizer Chiefs star from 1988-1993 and again from 2003 until 2006, also shone in the Turkish league for Fenerbahce and Bursaspor from 1997 until his return to South Africa in 2003.<\/p>\n
\u2018Shoes\u2019 was capped 73 times for South Africa and scored eight times. Most notably, he was one of Bafana\u2019s stand-out performers in their 1996 African Cup of Nations triumph, scoring four goals in the tournament.<\/p>\n
Moshoeu was 49 years old. John Shoes Moshoeu sadly passed away at 15h00 this afternoon after a long but brave battle with cancer. May his dear soul rest in peace!!<\/p>\n
