The New Patriotic party (NPP) has described government\u2019s response to the attacks on Ghanaian nationals in South Africa, as meek.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”ckMqS837EUj6UzwxyQoDEITRO1G1w5hG”]The party says, the NDC government has not shown enough commitment \u00a0to Ghanaians in that country<\/strong><\/a><\/span>, whose lives may be in danger.<\/p>\n This is contained in press statement signed by the party\u2019s General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong.<\/p>\n The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Hannah Tetteh had disclosed that five Ghanaians have died<\/strong><\/a><\/span> in South Africa, one of which is related to the xenophobic attacks while the remaining four are not related.<\/p>\n According to the press release\u00a0\u201cThe New Patriotic Party notes with deep concern, the meek response of the NDC government towards the gruesome xenophobic attacks in South Africa which has claimed the lives of many Africans, including some Ghanaians.\u201d<\/p>\n It added that considering the serious nature of the attacks “our government was expected among other things, to unreservedly condemn these attacks and in concert with other African governments exert the necessary pressure on the South African authorities to act swiftly and decisively to end these barbaric and inhuman attacks on other Africans.”<\/p>\n “Sadly, so far, the NDC government has shown\u00a0 a lackadaisical attitude which is manifest in its inability to communicate to Ghanaians, any measures it is putting in place to assist our Nationals in South Africa,\u00a0 neither have they outlined any contingency plans to evacuate them if necessary.”<\/p>\n The NPP further urged “the President to carry out his sworn obligation under the 1992 constitution to protect the life and safety of every Ghanaian, whether home or Abroad.”<\/p>\n The Party shares\u00a0 in the pain and suffering of the many Ghanaians,\u00a0 whose loved ones have been caught up in this unfortunate\u00a0 situation.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Ghana’s High Commission to South Africa,\u00a0Kwesi Ahwoi has stated that, Ghanaians in South Africa are unwilling to return home<\/strong><\/a><\/span> despite the attacks.<\/p>\n –<\/p>\n By: Godwin Akweiteh Allotey\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n
