The Yendi Circuit Court has sentenced a 35-year old man,\u00a0Alhassan Wumbei,\u00a0to 10 years imprisonment\u00a0for defiling a five-year-old girl.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”ZlQJdQ8njPWAGJh7qaO1bX3lfEMA4hrn”]Police Sergeant\u00a0Joseph Gyamfi told the court that\u00a0the complainant, Effia Wumbei, is a drinking bar attendant at Balogu, a suburb of Yendi, and mother of the victim while the accused person is\u00a0a labourer of the Eastern Corridor Road Construction Company, and a regular customer of the complainant.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said on\u00a0March 14 at about 9:45pm,\u00a0the accused person went to complainant’s\u00a0drinking spot and later carried the girl\u00a0onto his motorbike and drove to his house at Balogu.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution,\u00a0when they got to the house,\u00a0the accused person\u2019s son, Mohammed Wumbei, was watching television, so the two joined him but later, Mohammed left the room, and the accused person took advantage of his son\u2019s absence and defiled the girl.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said, when the complainant had information that her daughter was in the house of the accused person, she went there with some family members.<\/p>\n
Sgt Gyamfi said when they examined the girl, it was detected that blood was oozing from her\u00a0vagina and so\u00a0they proceeded to the Yendi Police station and made a report.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said the girl was issued with a Police medical form and when she went\u00a0to the Yendi Government Hospital, she was referred to the\u00a0Tamale Teaching Hospital for a Specialist Gynaecologist for examination.<\/p>\n
Sgt Gyamfi\u00a0said on March 15,\u00a0the Police arrested the accused person, and in his caution\u00a0 statement admitted the offence.
