heavy security presence<\/strong><\/span><\/a> at the South African High Commission over the weekend in Labone in Accra to protect the facility for fear of reprisal attacks, according to sources close to the High Commission.<\/p>\nSouth African High Commissioner to Ghana Lulama Xingwana who addressed a press conference in Accra today said \u201cWe have received threats in the High Commission.\u201d<\/p>\n
She narrated one of such incidence saying 4 men besieged the High Commission on Friday requesting to see the High Commissioner.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey wanted to go into the office but were stopped by the security at the gate\u201d said Ms. Lulama Xingwana. After they were refused entry at the gate the four men \u201cthreatened that they will be coming back to burn the High Commission offices\u201d Lulama Xingwana added.<\/p>\n
According to the High Commissioner \u201cwe have reported the matter to the police and we have received support from the police to make sure that the premises are safe\u201d.<\/p>\n
She argued that the people in the High Commission were not all South Africans, rather there were Ghanaians as well. \u201cAnd therefore we have an interest; whoever is there whether Ghanaian or South African must be protected at all times\u201d.<\/p>\n
