{"id":1098,"date":"2014-02-20T10:04:14","date_gmt":"2014-02-20T10:04:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/citi.hatuasolutions.com\/?p=1098"},"modified":"2014-02-20T10:04:14","modified_gmt":"2014-02-20T10:04:14","slug":"gwcl-restores-full-water-supply-in-accra","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2014\/02\/gwcl-restores-full-water-supply-in-accra\/","title":{"rendered":"GWCL restores full water supply in Accra"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_1103\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1103\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/citi.hatuasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/water-shortage.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1103\" alt=\"Water shortage in Accra\" src=\"http:\/\/citi.hatuasolutions.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/water-shortage-300x225.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1103\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Water shortage in Accra<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has assured residents in Accra that full supply of water will start regularly from today (Thursday).<\/p>\n<p>According to a\u00a0Communications Manager at the Ghana Water Company,\u00a0\u00a0Nana Yaw Barnieh, the Weija main transmission has been restored and by Thursday evening, water will start flowing through the taps.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking on the <strong>Citi Breakfast Show<\/strong> he said the GWCL team has fixed the burst on the pipeline which caused the Weija plant to shut down.<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019Currently as I speak to you Weija has been put back into operation, they are working, they started at 5:55am this morning; we are hoping that by this afternoon Weija would have come back to normalcy.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n<p>\u2018\u2019We have been able to fix the problem, we finished this dawn; so now we have started Weija treatment plant and water is being pumped from Weija,\u2019\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n<p>He explained that when a treatment plant is shut down and all the pipes go dry, it takes sometime before water starts flow when the plant is activated.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) will shut down the Kpong Plant to allow contractors executing the Kpong Intake and Accra Tema Metropolitan Area Rural Rehabilitation and Expansion (ATMA) projects; undertake critical pipeline interconnections under the project due for completion in the next three months.<\/p>\n<p>When completed, the project will produce an additional nine million gallons of water per day.<\/p>\n<p>A statement released by the company on Monday said: \u201cUpon completion, the projects will improve efficiency with the replacement of all the existing pumps and the installation of a 3.3 million gallon a day treatment plant to increase water supply to Accra-Tema Metropolitan Area\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Some areas to be affected during the period include Tema, Ashaiman, Lashibi, Michel Camp, Afienya, Prampram, Ningo, Somanya, Dodowa, Akuapim, Ridge Areas, Adenta, Madina, Ashalley-Botwe, Adjiringano, East Legon, Legon, Ashongman, Kwabenya, Taifa, Dome, Achimota and surrounding areas.<\/p>\n<p>The Company said in the statement that it intends to put in place stop gap measures to ensure supply from Weija to the Accra Terminal Reservoir and Booster Station for supply to some parts of eastern Accra to minimise the impact of the shutdown.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>By: Evans Effah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) has assured residents in Accra that full supply of water will start regularly from today (Thursday).
