The Minister for Environment, Science and Technology has charged the nation\u2019s Scientists and Researchers to develop the can do spirit by shifting from the paradigm of conducting findings for theoretical purposes to innovation and industrialization.<\/p>\n
This, according to Mahama Ayariga could reduce the huge wage bill on importation of manufactured goods and foodstuff into the country.<\/p>\n
He lamented, \u201cToday we import almost every technology including cotton seeds, agricultural equipment and tools and so we have a huge import bill when it comes to even food especially rice importation.\u201d<\/p>\n
<\/a><\/p>\n Hon. Mahama Ayariga was addressing the management and staff of the Savannah Agricultural Research Institute (SARI) at Nyankpala as part of his two days official working visit to the Northern Region.<\/p>\n He emphasized the need to put into practice research findings to improve the socio-economic development of Ghanaians.<\/p>\n He also urged them to deepen their engagement with the private sector as best means of effectively utilizing research findings foro industrial purposes.<\/p>\n <\/a><\/p>\n \u201cFailure of our scientific community is leading to the nation\u2019s development difficulties and I strongly believe effective collaboration with the private sector will help address the myriad problems: Scientists step up your game.\u201d<\/p>\n He nonetheless commended SARI for boosting the nation\u2019s food security with the cultivation of variety of rice.<\/p>\n \u201cDomestic rice consumption is increasing and the figures of rice importation are gradually reducing and I think we need to commend you and the farmers for the strides that you are making in that direction.<\/p>\n
