{"id":108034,"date":"2015-04-13T17:10:29","date_gmt":"2015-04-13T17:10:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=108034"},"modified":"2015-04-13T17:10:29","modified_gmt":"2015-04-13T17:10:29","slug":"ag-warns-military-against-forced-takeover-of-tse-addo-lands","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/04\/ag-warns-military-against-forced-takeover-of-tse-addo-lands\/","title":{"rendered":"AG warns military against forced takeover of Tse Addo lands"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Attorney General\u2019s Department is warning the Ghana Armed Forces against using brute force to take over lands and <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><strong><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/04\/01\/military-defends-dade-kotopon-demolition-exercise\/#sthash.oPk7I9bu.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\">property at Tse-Addo<\/a>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span>in the East Dadekotopon area in Accra.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;mAUOwzOiqbMdEt2MzB8Arco1Ln8ddgik&#8221;]The AG wants the military to commence the formal process through the ministry of Defense for the compulsory acquisition of the 2456.55 acres and pay prompt and adequate compensation to the current owners of the land.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In a letter signed by Deputy Attorney General, Dr. Dominic Ayine, addressed to the Directorate of Legal Services at the Ghana armed forces, the Attorney General advised that until the formal acquisition procedure is pursued the \u201cGhana Armed Forces must not engage in acts of trespass to the land or by means of the use of force seek to prevent the current land owners from developing their lands\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">For the AG, this is regardless of the fact that \u201cthe evidence from the initial negotiations indicates that there is no dispute with respect to the legitimacy of the security set-up\u2019s need\u201d and \u201cfor that matter the public purpose for which the land will be put.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ghana Armed forces went on rampage <span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/2015\/03\/31\/military-destroys-properties-at-dade-kotopon\/#sthash.7gLYosZy.dpbs\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>to demolish houses<\/strong><\/a><\/span> and walls at Tse-Addo.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This demolition exercise according to them was to \u201cward off developers who by their actions were threatening the security and safety of some sensitive military installations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Landowners however disagree, they indicate that the military, who they say is seeking to use crude means to dispossess them of their lands started harassing their workers about a year ago.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Attorney General adds that it was abundantly clear from evidence adduced at the negotiations and \u201cfrom all documentation made available that the Ghana armed Forces have not disputed the fact that the lands belongs to the East Dadekotopon Development Trust\u201d who in turn sold these lands to the current owners.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The letter proceeded to assert that the in consequence any attempt to enforce the creation of the security buffer Zone outside of the framework of the law is unconstitutional.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Following the demolition, the land owners at a press conference expressed their resolve to drag the military to the courts for damaging their property.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Something many say looks like a judgment debt in the offing.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>&#8211;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">By: Raymond Acquah\/citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Attorney General\u2019s Department is warning the Ghana Armed Forces against using brute force to take over lands and property at Tse-Addo\u00a0in the East Dadekotopon area in Accra.
