Horseman Shoes, with support from the Skill Development Fund by COTVET has organized a 5 day practical training course on shoe construction for shoe makers in Kumasi.<\/p>\n
The training was facilitated by an Italian shoe making expert from the ModaPelle Academy in Milan, Italy.<\/p>\n
The training was to improve the craftsmanship of local artisans as well as equip them with knowledge on design and expose them to modern trends of shoe making.<\/p>\n
The participants were leather work students from the department of Integrated Rural Art and Industry of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), small scale shoe makers and staff of Horseman Shoes.<\/p>\n
Participants were taken through analysis of the main shoe typologies and technical overview, pattern making, material analysis, construction techniques and analysis of footwear structures.<\/p>\n
Chief Executive Officer of Horseman Shoes, Tonyi Senayah said the training was in line with his organization\u2019s commitment to manufacture international standard shoes locally.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are committed to producing products and building a brand that is world class in pursuance of our vision to create employment and also become the most preferred brand. We recognize the need to upgrade our skills and build capacity which includes the skill development of the artisans among others\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The training he added \u201chas been an eye opener. We have learnt entirely different ways of making shoes right from making the patterns to the finishing. Within the next few months when our next collection is out-doored, it will be entirely different from what we have been doing. Customers should expect more enhanced features in quality, design and comfort. We are more inspired by this training and we feel more confident to get onto the world market\u201d.<\/p>\n
Godfred Nkrumah, a participant said \u201cthe training has been insightful but I think we needed more time with the trainer and a lot of practice on our own especially with the pattern making. We have learnt a lot of technical and scientific ways in making shoes\u201d.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are grateful to Horseman Shoes for giving us such an opportunity. I wish every leather student would get the opportunity to go through this program\u201d said Phoebe Owusu Ansah, a student of KNUST.<\/p>\n
Facilitator of the training, Roberto Gussoni was impressed with the success chalked by Horseman Shoes over the years especially considering the circumstances under which they make their shoes. He said he was happy to be part of the process \u201cof harnessing the great opportunity that exits here in Ghana and across Africa for quality indigenous brands like Horseman with practical skills training\u201d.<\/p>\n
Each Participant will receive a diploma certificate in Shoe Construction by the ModaPelle Academy of Italy.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Horseman Shoes which unveiled its new line of shoes late last year, is working on a new range of 2015 models. These models which are expected to hit the market soon, the company says, will feature bold new designs but will bear the trademark comfort and quality of Horseman Shoes.<\/p>\n
