The Ashanti Regional Police Command has indicated its resolve to unravel the circumstances that led to the escape of two criminals from the Tepa Police cells on Tuesday.

[contextly_sidebar id=”VokYsQ3Dn5BNxEJuy2irPFdofCm834N1″]The two suspected criminals are; 39-year-old Shadrack Nyame, a driver and 26-year-old Owusu Afram.

They are alleged to have smuggled a hacksaw into their cell, which they used to cut the iron bars of the windows of the cell and escaped.

Two officers who were on duty at the time of the incident have been given 10 days to find the suspects.

The Ashanti Regional Police PRO, ASP Mohammed Yusif Tanko told Citi News, although the Service is liaising with the locals to help in re-arresting the escapees, any officer found culpable will be dealt with severely.

He indicated that the Regional Command is very concerned about the unfortunate development “and steps are being taken to ensure that we get them back to the cells.”

ASP Tanko warned that the Command will not hesitate to punish any officer found to have been negligent in the issue.

Thorough investigations into the matter has began and “whoever is found to have misconducted himself or been negligent in allowing those people to escape will be dealt with according to our disciplinary procedures,” he added.

This is the second time suspects in Police custody in the Ashanti Region have escaped within a space of six months.

The first was n November 2014 when four murder suspects escaped from custody at the Suame Divisional Command.

However, in February this year, there was an attempted jail break at the Kumasi Central Prisons after a fire scare.

This was later followed by a cell break at Denu in the Volta Region where seven suspects escaped but the Police has been able to re-arrest three.
