The National Council of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) will on Monday [today] meet to review some of the controversial policies ahead of its Parliamentary primaries introduced by the National Executive Committee (NEC).<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”dG2PPaWm1NECZi2uDu12s4m66YHOmBLc”]The National Council, which is a more superior body, is meeting over the matter following a series of agitations and demands which met the announcement of the new policies which is to regulate the conduct of the party\u2019s upcoming parliamentary primaries.<\/p>\n
The party\u2019s NEC among other things directed that only females must be allowed to contest in areas with sitting female Members of Parliament (MPs).<\/p>\n
It also decided that the following coastal constituencies in the Greater Accra Region should be contested by Ga indigenes except in exceptional circumstances: Ngleshie Amanfrom, Ablekuma South, Odododiodio, Korle Klottey, La Dade Kotopon, Ledzokuku, Krowor Tema East, Tema West, Kpone Katamanso, Amasaman, Obom and Domeabra.<\/p>\n
But this was badly received by some members who marched to some party offices including the headquarters in Accra to demand a reverse of those decisions.<\/p>\n
The NPP\u2019s National Women\u2019s Organizer, Otiko Afisa Djaba on the Big Issue last Saturday said the directive was not well received because it was not properly communicated to the party members.<\/p>\n
According to her, the meeting of the National Council is indicative that \u201cwith all the agitations, we are listening.\u201d<\/p>\n
She however pointed out that the National Council is not the highest body in the party but the conference which is the highest body; but she was optimistic of a positive outcome from Monday\u2019s meeting.<\/p>\n
Otiko Djaba added that most of the women in the party who have expressed delight at the affirmative action policy of the party are willing to allow the National Council to take a look at the policy again for the sake of party unity.<\/p>\n
