Government has distributed free school uniforms, foot wears, school bags, sanitary pads and other learning materials to about 1,200 female students in the Tolon District.<\/p>\n
This is in line with government\u2019s agenda to promote girl child education in the country.<\/p>\n
The beneficiaries were from 16 selected Junior High Schools in the Tolon District.<\/p>\n
A total of 508 female students each received two pairs of school uniforms, one foot wear, 10 exercise books and a graph book, pens, pencils and sanitary pads.<\/p>\n

District Chief Executive for Tolon, Seidu Abubakari who supervised the distribution exercise decried the falling standard of education in the area but gave the assurance that it would soon be overturned.<\/p>\n
He described girl child education as one of the monumental challenges his administration was determined to address.<\/p>\n
According to him, government\u2019s Girls Participatory Approach to Student Success (GIRLS PASS) aimed at increasing girl child enrolment in schools was on course.<\/p>\n
He challenged female students especially the beneficiaries to place premium on their studies.<\/p>\n
Seidu Abubakari advised the youth to stop glorifying immoral acts and concentrate on their studies.<\/p>\n
He further tasked parents and guardians in the Tolon District to invest in their children\u2019s education.<\/p>\n
Seidu Abubakari said his administration would commit enough resources to sustain government\u2019s pro-poor policies such as the School Feeding Program and the Capitation Grant to increase enrolment at the basic school.<\/p>\n
He commended Non Governmental Organizations including World Vision, NORSAAC, GIGDEV and Youth Empowerment for Life for their immense contribution to the district\u2019s socio-economic development.<\/p>\n
Tolon Regent<\/strong><\/p>\n The Regent of Tolon, Major Retired Abubakari Sulemana said government was worthy of praise for the intervention.<\/p>\n He was hopeful that it would encourage female students to stay in school and improve their performance.<\/p>\n Major Sulemana Abubakari described the Tolon DCE as a workaholic whose performance could not be underestimated.<\/p>\n According to him, the DCE succeeded in uniting and mobilizing the people to transform the area in line with the assembly\u2019s mission.<\/p>\n Major Retired Sulemana Abubakari reassured the DCE, Seidu Abubakari of his unflinching support to improve the wellbeing of residents there.<\/p>\n The Tolon District Director of Education, Amoli Abaako attributed knowledge gaps between male and female students to poverty, socio-cultural barriers and some parents\u2019 ignorance on the value of girl child education.<\/p>\n He said the education of girl education was crucial in nation building, hence the need for government to heavily invest in that sector.<\/p>\n Abaako Amoli emphasized the need for government and NGOs to offer scholarship to female students to motivate them.<\/p>\n He extolled the Tolon DCE, Seidu Abubakari for expanding education infrastructure in the area.<\/p>\n One of the beneficiaries from Woribogu Junior High School, Abdul Salam Zeinab thanked government for the support.<\/p>\n She unveiled her ambition of becoming a Soldier for which reason she would work towards achieving her aim through education.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n By: Abdul Karim Naatogmah\/Citifmonline.com\/Ghana<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Government has distributed free school uniforms, foot wears, school bags, sanitary pads and other learning materials to about 1,200 female students in the Tolon District.
