Tigo Ghana has denied allegations that it has under-declared its revenue and also prevented Subah Info Solutions to connect and monitor revenue on behalf of the regulator, the National Communications Authority (NCA).<\/p>\n
A statement signed by the head of Corporate Communications at Tigo, Gifty Bingley said the allegations are false, malicious and irresponsible.<\/p>\n
She argued that Tigo has never evaded taxes or under declared revenues and \u201cwe therefore take very strong exception to such generalized allegations being made in the media.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cAgain we wish to set the record straight on the erroneous impression created that Tigo is putting impediments in the way of Subah Info Solutions to connect and access our revenue data.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is absolutely false, Subah Info Solutions has since March 2014 had their server in Tigo\u2019s Data Centre with access to all revenue information including sales and recharge report, interconnect and roaming data and other financial reconciliations.\u201d<\/p>\n
Below is the full statement from Tigo Ghana<\/strong><\/p>\n Our attention has been drawn to allegations that Tigo has under-declared revenue and also prevented Subah Info Solutions to connect and monitor revenue on behalf of the regulator, the NCA.<\/p>\n We wish to state that these allegations are false, malicious and irresponsible.<\/p>\n We were disappointed that the authors of these allegations did not check with Tigo before going public.<\/p>\n As part of Millicom which is listed on the Swedish Stock Exchange, we take such allegations on under declaration of revenue very seriously as it has adverse implications for our integrity, market value and corporate reputation.<\/p>\n For the record, in February 2013 the NCA commissioned a revenue assurance audit into our operations for the period January 1, 2008 to October June 30, 2011.<\/p>\n The conclusions of the revenue audit was that Tigo had paid the NCA a total of GHC7,778,812.01 in regulatory fees for the three-year period under audit representing 1% of its net revenue.<\/p>\n The Auditors also concluded that Tigo applied the regulatory fee computations correctly, namely netting off the proper costs directly related to interconnect fees from our gross operating revenue and applying the obligatory one percent (1%) NCA levy to the resultant amount.<\/p>\n The Auditors also found that revenue recognition practices for advance billings, maintenance\/software\/service fees, and multi-month contracts were correct.<\/p>\n Revenue analysis and recording of revenue by type, source, method of payment, and product line were also correct.<\/p>\n Tigo\u2019s only liability resulted from the auditor\u2019s re-calculations and the treatment of adjustments passed in our financials and reconciliations.<\/p>\n However this was of no material significance and has since been settled in full to the NCA, (GH\u20b5 208,495 (approx. $90,000) in regulatory fees and $50,000 on International Incoming Traffic. This represents less than 5% of total fees paid to the NCA.<\/p>\n At no point has Tigo evaded taxes or under declared revenues. We therefore take very strong exception to such generalized allegations being made in the media.<\/p>\n Again we wish to set the record straight on the erroneous impression created that Tigo is putting impediments in the way of Subah Info Solutions to connect and access our revenue data.<\/p>\n This is absolutely false, Subah Info Solutions has since March 2014 had their server in Tigo\u2019s Data Centre with access to all revenue information including sales and recharge report, interconnect and roaming data and other financial reconciliations.<\/p>\n We wish to emphasize that Tigo remains committed to good corporate citizenship with strong ethical values.<\/p>\n We operate in full transparency and compliance with the industry regulator and the Government of Ghana.\u00a0 We have over the years honoured all our tax and regulatory fee obligations.<\/p>\n In 2014 alone, Tigo paid 107, 425,039 in taxes.
