{"id":103080,"date":"2015-03-27T15:00:43","date_gmt":"2015-03-27T15:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=103080"},"modified":"2015-03-27T15:47:11","modified_gmt":"2015-03-27T15:47:11","slug":"guta-fumes-over-marginal-increase-in-electricity-tariff","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/03\/guta-fumes-over-marginal-increase-in-electricity-tariff\/","title":{"rendered":"GUTA fumes over marginal increase in electricity tariff\u00a0"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) is unhappy about the marginal\u00a0<span style=\"color: #666699;\"><a style=\"color: #666699;\" href=\"http:\/\/contextly.com\/redirect\/?id=Z6AwvujHDc:102960:2534:13::Mez417QoFjq2fQmE0DmbjlK77:only_previous:5515620d92bf00-93345925\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>tariff increment<\/strong><\/a> <\/span>announced on Thursday by the Public Utility Regulatory Commission (PURC) and said it was uncalled for.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">[contextly_sidebar id=&#8221;Rr8yswnbpZaDGKjmZJwyRjcGH4JXfGZv&#8221;]The PURC in the second quarter Automatic Adjustment Formula, arrived at an actual increase of 31.73% cumulative for electricity and 21.30% for water but the Commission using the Decision Variable decided to pass on the minimal tariff increase of 2.63% for electricity and 1.06% for water due the erratic power supply in the country.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is despite the irregular power supply from the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">But the PURC defended the increment saying this will help ECG buy the necessary equipment to run the current load system. Speaking to <strong>Citi News<\/strong> President of GUTA George Ofori said the increment will lead to the collapse of more businesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He said for those in the business sector \u201cthe inability of the ECG to provide us good services is making factories close down. Others are relocating their businesses to other regional blocks\u201d. For him the irregular power supplies coupled with the recent tariff increase will cause businesses to disintegrate.
