Two persons were on Monday arraigned at an Accra Circuit Court, for conspiracy to commit crime, attempt to commit crime and possessing fake currency.<\/p>\n
Moussan Verone, Medical Doctor, and Pater Kwame Wembe, Cleaner, were said to have conspired and attempted to commit crime to defraud by false pretences. They were also alleged to have in their possession quantity of fake 100 American Dollar notes.<\/p>\n
[contextly_sidebar id=”TfmMYYUYc7p15CC382CmnLCaJyznaAce”]They both pleaded not guilty to the charges, and were granted bail in the sum of GHc100, 000 with three sureties each, to be public servants earning not less than GHc400.<\/p>\n
The accused persons are also to submit their passports to the court registrar, and report to the police on Mondays and Fridays.<\/p>\n
The facts of the case as presented by Police Inspector Michael Jubiok are that the complainant, Jacob Akuamoah Boateng is a medical officer and owner of the Mab Medicare Centre at Darkuman, while Moussan is a Burkinabe National and a Medical officer and Peter is a cleaner living at Nima.<\/p>\n
He said about two weeks ago, the complainant received a call from one Peter Toure, alias Shariff now at large and a friend of the accused persons, purportedly calling from Burkina Faso on Telephone number +22667305213 saying that he was a special aide to the former Burkina Faso President Blasie Compoare.<\/p>\n
He said the caller added that when the president was overthrown, he managed to secure two boxes of money, which one contained 6.5 million dollars and the other 8.6 million dollars belonging to the president.<\/p>\n
The prosecution said Peter Toure told the complainant that he decided to invest the money in Ghana and would like him to be his agent in Ghana.<\/p>\n
He further went ahead to tell the complainant that he was sending Moussan, his secretary to come and see him for feasible studies.<\/p>\n
Police Inspector Jubiok said the complainant who had fallen victim to this before, feigned interest in the deal and asked him to send his secretary.<\/p>\n
He said on February 25, Moussan arrived in Ghana and met the complainant who lodged him at \u2018Charles Palace Guest House\u2019 at Darkuman for three days at his expense.<\/p>\n
Moussan on his arrival told the complainant that the two boxes of money would arrive by a special courier at the cost of $10,000 which should be paid by the complainant.<\/p>\n
According to the prosecution, on February 27, at about 2100 hours the police laid ambush at the STC terminal at the Kwame Nkrumah Circle where Peter arrived with the two boxes and he was arrested.<\/p>\n
He told the court during interrogation, that Peter indicated among other things, that he was sent by one Shariff to deliver the boxes to the complainant.<\/p>\n
The boxes were opened and they contained fake American Dollars and brown hard papers.<\/p>\n
In the course of investigations, it was revealed that the accused persons are residents of Nima and Darkuman and their deal originated from Nima and not Burkina Faso, as they told the complainant<\/p>\n
