{"id":101207,"date":"2015-03-23T06:43:30","date_gmt":"2015-03-23T06:43:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/4cd.e16.myftpupload.com\/?p=101207"},"modified":"2015-03-23T07:01:38","modified_gmt":"2015-03-23T07:01:38","slug":"govt-likely-to-permanently-ban-inland-rice-imports","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/citifmonline.com\/2015\/03\/govt-likely-to-permanently-ban-inland-rice-imports\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov&#8217;t likely to permanently ban inland rice imports"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The Ministry of Trade and Industry is likely to place a permanent embargo on the importation of rice through the country&#8217;s inland borders.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Government since November 2013 has restricted the importation of rice to the Kotoka Airport and the Tema and Takoradi seaports.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">This is despite strong opposition from small-scale importers of rice who are complaining the move has collapsed their businesses.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Speaking to <strong>Citi Business News,<\/strong> the Deputy Minister of Trade Murtala Mohammed said the substantive Minister is expected to state government&#8217;s final position on the issue next week.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">He noted that\u00a0 \u201cthe Ministry of Trade put the embargo on the inland importation of rice long before I went to the ministry, and when I went there, we had a lot of petitions from the small rice importers who do the inland importing and the so called big rice importers who imports through the harbours.
